Join the Modern & Contemporary Culture Workshop (Mo/Co) for their first workshop of the semester, featuring work from Jennifer Marine! Jennifer is a PhD candidate in the Art & Architectural History graduate program here at UVA. Her article examines the Voice Figures of Welsh singer Margaret Watts-Hughes, exploring how and why they were called “photographs” in the late nineteenth century. In doing so, it traces a shared lineage between light and sound, and photography and sound recording.
The article and related images are included below. Coffee and pastries will be provided. Contact Professor Christa Noel Robbins for more information: cnr4b@virginia.edu.
